#S211 - Easy Photo Tips for New Shooters
By Ken Kurtis
The advent of digital photography has made it possible for just about anyone to easily start snapping away underwater. But many times, new photogs aren't happy with the results they're getting, even though they may have invested in the latest high tech imaging equipment. In this talk geared to divers new to underwater photography, Reef Seekers owner and photographer Ken Kurtis will go over some simple basics and techniques that can improve the images of just about anyone by the time you make your next dive. Ken had dug through his own portfolio to present the good, the bad, and the ugly of his photos and hopes you can learn from his successes and failures. It's a give-and-take format and questions are encouraged.

#S611 - What to expect from YOUR Intro-to-Tech Course
By Nestor Palmero (STD/TDI/ERDI)
Since we introduced this entry-level program into Technical Diving International's menu of diver courses, the uptake and acceptance has made our heads spin. The growing interest in and popularity of "technical diving" has obviously fueled much of that interest, but there is more to it than that. On paper, Intro to Tech is about choosing and configuring dive gear, learning about more detailed dive planning and risk management, developing skills like equipment handling and situational awareness, and learning some drills to make those skills stick! But a whole bunch of "average" divers tell us they took the course because they were bored with average! Maybe you'd like to add something a little more exciting to your diving. Come to this seminar and find out! We believe you will find Intro to Tech it is just for you!

#S112 - Secrets of Fish I.D
By Ken Kurtis
Divers take the time to learn how to dive but sometimes don't take the time to learn what it is they're looking at underwater. In this seminar, Ken Kurtis will share with you some of his "secrets" of figuring out exactly what it is you're looking at. It's a generic system that will work anywhere in the world but Ken will also focus on some California-specific fish that you are likely to encounter on a regular basis including all THREE of our gobies. (Sure, you know Blue-Banded and Black-Eyed, but how about that third one????) It's a loose format and questions are encouraged. And if you have photos (digital or prints) of "unknown" fish, bring them in and we'll try to figure out what they are.

#S11 - Shark Sex, Eel Madness and Gay Turtles & Blue Water White Death Excerpt
By Stan Waterman
Shark Sex, Eel Madness & Gay Turtles: We encounter the world headquarters of moray eels—hundreds of them, in a rare concentration at Malpelo Island, far at sea off Columbia. Then on to Cocos Islands for a gathering of the hammerhead sharks. Stan documents the white tip reef sharks mating and the disturbed attachment of two gay turtles. The footage is seasoned with a dash of humor. The video features some astounding marine animal behavior sequences.

Blue Water, White Death Excerpts: An eight-minute excerpt of the seminal encounter by divers, far to sea off Durban, South Africa, with the big oceanic white tip sharks. The frightening experience was generic. At the time it was a calculated risk that pushed the envelope for future rapport with sharks by divers.

By Stan Waterman
For an entire year, the Waterman family lived and dived in French Polynesia. With a home in Tahiti they ranged the islands when their children were 10, 12, and 14. They were Stan's dive team. National Geographic bought the television rights to the story. Stan digitized the original film production. It is a warm, personal account of the finest experience the family ever had together, at the right place—at the right time.

#S22 - Macro Underwater Videography in High Definition
By Josh Kaye-Carr
We've all been there. You've paid your bucks. You're all set for a great dive, camera in hand. You giant stride off the boat and what do you see? Six feet of visibility. So much for scenic underwater vistas. Or maybe all the big critters have taken the day off. Now what? Turn lemons into lemonade. Try macro. This seminar will focus on the tool techniques required get great underwater footage of the "small stuff." We'll look at lenses and ports, camera housings, external viewfinders, remote control, lighting systems, and camera/housing support options. We'll also talk about the strategies and the methods for obtaining the highest quality imagery possible when shooting small subjects at close range. Macro videography is an approach that is often overlooked as we search for the "big picture." Come join us and see the opportunities for getting great imagery that's lurking right beneath our fins!

#S62 - How Do Women Travel Different Than Men?
By Szilvia Gogh
Women do not plan dive travel like men. We need more than just the probability of an amazing underwater adventure. We long to do other things as well, aside from the diving and discussing the dives in the bar. We do yoga, get a pedicure, horseback ride, hike in the jungles, and white water raft. We treasure trips where we can indulge ourselves in many activities we love. Women like to be in a positive environment (especially in this male dominated scuba world) where we can let our hair down, where the more experienced traveler/diver can lend insight and aid to their less experienced colleagues in an unpretentious, pressure-free atmosphere. We are regular, but unordinary girls.

#S13 - West Coast's Remote Offshore Islands

There are, however, other islands that offer even more incredible diving and are rarely visited—The Farallon Islands, off San Francisco; Guadalupe, a day's steam south of San Diego; and Isla De Revillagigedo, a day's steam south of Cabo San Lucas. These islands have had minimal disturbance by humans and are as remote and unspoiled as one can find in California. Come see what their dive sites are like and the marine life that can be found there
