#S111 - Underwater Photography: The Big Picture
By Marty Snyderman
Most of the time when underwater photographers get together and "talk shop," the focus is about the specifics involved in getting particular types of photographs, the latest, greatest gear, and "must visit" diving destinations. While all of those topics are of great interest to most photographers, it is all too easy to overlook photography's "big picture," the overview that encompasses all of the steps in photography from camera set-up to backing up your files. A big part of what the diver does takes place underwater, and Marty will discuss shooting strategies and avoiding common pitfalls. But maximizing your efforts underwater and getting the most out of your photography involves having a plan and doing things "right" before your dive, in the water, after your dive, and at your computer.

#S611 - Secrets of Fish ID
By Ken Kurtis
Divers take the time to learn how to dive but sometimes don't take the time to learn what it is they're looking at underwater. In this seminar, Ken Kurtis will share with you some of his "secrets" of figuring out exactly what it is you're looking at. It's a generic system that will work anywhere in the world but Ken will also focus on some California-specific fish that you are likely to encounter on a regular basis including all THREE of our gobies. (Sure, you know Blue-Banded and Black-Eyed, but how about that third one???) It's a loose format and questions are encouraged. And if you have photos (digital or prints) of "unknown" fish, bring them in and we'll try to figure out what they are.
